Sony unveiled new technology and products at CES 2024. The new mixed reality glasses for “spatial content creation and 3D design” were among the most striking devices. The glasses, whose name has not yet been announced, have a design similar to PlayStation VR2. However, it has a simpler appearance with its matte gray coating.
What do Sony XR glasses with 4K OLED display offer?
Powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform, the AR/VR glasses work as a standalone device. According to Sony, it offers a 4K OLED viewing experience through dual micro displays. It includes a total of six cameras and sensors for both user and environment tracking.
With the glasses, you can create 3D models and move virtual objects in real time, Sony said. The XR glasses come with two controllers, a “pointing controller” and a smaller “ring controller” worn on the fingers.
According to Sony, the design of the glasses emphasizes comfort for both extended and creative use. In particular, the screen pivots upwards, so you can return to the real world without removing the glasses completely.
Sony said that spatial projects can be viewed over the internet through third-party apps. The presentation at CES 2024 was also intrigued by the ability to move a virtual robotic arm using the controllers.
The glasses, which are expected to compete with glasses such as Apple Vision Pro, do not yet have a name and release date. However, Sony seems to create competition in the world of spatial content creation with its camera, display and controller technologies.
